Gluteal Tendinopathy or otherwise known as Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (GTPS)
This condition used to be called Trochanteric Bursitis but now referred to as gluteal tendinopathy or GTPS (pain around the trochanteric area).
Pain is worse lying on the effected side, especially at night and early morning pain and stiffness. The pain in the hip area gets worse over time with walking and running and there is significant weakness in the lateral (outter) hip muscles or otherwise known as hip abductors. There is pain and tenderness in this region of the hip bone and upwards into the buttock muscles.

Shockwave therapy for this condition has had NICE guidelines since 2011, so it is a safe and effective treatment for people who have not responded well to other conservative treatments. The evidence states that 3-5 treatment sessions may be required for significant improvements using shockwave therapy.
